Tommy Lloyd Staying At Arizona, Who Will North Carolina Pivot To Next?

Let the coaching carousel continue to spin.

After days of speculation, it appears Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd will be staying put in Tuscon.

The Wildcats and Lloyd agreed to a new contract earlier Friday morning, as the news became public at his Final Four press conference this afternoon.

Although the North Carolina Tar Heels came after Lloyd with an aggressive offer that would have made him one of the three highest paid coaches in college basketball, the Wildcats' head coach opted to stay in the valley of the sun.

Part of Lloyd's new deal involves a shakeup in terms of the chain of command, as he will no longer report to Arizona's athletic director, Desireé Reed-Francois.

This is similar to Will Wade's setup at LSU, though the new line of communication is being hashed out as we speak.

The timing of this new deal isn't an accident, as the Wildcats were surely trying to eliminate any potential distractions for their national championship run, given all the noise surrounding the newly opened North Carolina job.

Speaking of the Tar Heels, where will the folks in Chapel Hill turn their attention to now that their top target is off the board?

UNC will have to reset their board, but sources close to OutKick believe the Tar Heels will make a run at Chicago Bulls head coach, Billy Donovan.

Donovan has a storied career as a college coach, guiding the Florida Gators to two national championships, four Final Four appearances, and six SEC titles, in his 19 years in Gainesville.

Should Donovan refuse the offer, it is believed the Tar Heels will pivot to Michigan's Dusty May, though sources have revealed that May is happy in Ann Arbor and hasn't considered any coaching opportunities at the moment with his Wolverines also in the Final Four.

Regardless, the Arizona Wildcats have locked down their coach for the foreseeable future, while the Tar Heels will have to go back to the drawing board.

Let the coaching carousel continue to spin.
