Dennis Smith Jr. Shares How Fake Woj Trade News Left Him Shook

NBA guard Dennis Smith, Jr. fell for an erroneous trade put out this week by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, as teams were approaching the final moments of the NBA's trade deadline.

Though Woj is typically accurate in this breaking news biz, he got hasty on an uneventful trade deadline. On Tuesday, Wojnarowski tweeted that the Brooklyn Nets traded Dennis Smith, Jr. to the Toronto Raptors. But it turns out, Smith was never part of the trade, prompting the NBA reporter to quickly delete his tweet.

Dennis Smith had a sigh of relief, but he still called it a shocking mix-up by Woj. On Saturday, Dennis Smith shared his thoughts on the "shocking" moment he saw the Woj tweet.

"I got Woj tweets on, so all of his tweets come to my phone as soon as he tweets them on deadline day," Smith reacted. "I see Spencer going there. I'm on FaceTime, and I see my name pop up. I'm like, ‘Hell nah!' I click on it, and it says, ‘Dennis Smith Jr. traded to the Raptors.' I had a knot in my stomach, I was sick!"

The player added,

"I'm looking at my phone and it says [Nets assistant General Manager] Andy Birdsong. He's calling me as I saw it. And I've been traded before mid-year so I'm like, ‘He's gonna deliver the news.' So I'm looking that thing like, ‘I'm not gonna answer this shit!' Then I press answer and he's like, ‘Nah! Nah! Nah! It's a typo. You good. You staying here. Don't worry.' So I start hitting everyone up and telling them, ‘That's cap! I ain't going nowhere!"

The trade turned out to be Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie heading to Toronto, and Dennis Schroder and Thaddeus Young heading to Brooklyn.

Woj also got out-scooped by an NBA player, Patrick Beverley, on Tuesday, so it was an overall brutal day for the ESPN insider, who enjoys telling conservative senators to "eff off."  Pat Bev shared the news of his trade from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Milwaukee Bucks on his Barstool show.

Here comes the NBA season … ready to give us some entertainment until it's time for NFL football again. Sigh.
