Daytona 500 Off To Messy Start As Jet Dryers Collide, Spilling Fuel Everywhere

The good news: the Daytona 500 is finally going green today. It's sunny here, I promise. First time in days. The 2024 NASCAR season is really gonna start today. True story.

The bad news: they're already wrecking!

The good news, again: it was just a couple pesky jet dryers. No worries! You know, spilling fuel all over the place is never a huge deal. Usually works out great!

Daytona 500 catches weather break, but jet dryer doesn't care

What a start to The Great American Race. Can't catch a break, huh? This race was supposed to be run yesterday. Duh.

Of course, Mother Nature decided to take a giant, two-day long nap over the entire state of Florida this weekend and everything at the track has been a wash since Saturday.

That means the NASCAR Xfinity Series race, originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, is set to run later tonight. The 66th Daytona 500 will go green around 4:30 p.m. today …

… assuming all the fuel is cleaned up by then.

As you can see by the above images, a pair of jet dryers collided around Turn 1 while drying the track earlier today.

No word on HOW that happened, seeing as they go about 5 MPH, but one would assume there was one jet dryer at the top of the track, another on the bottom, and one started sliding down the banking.

When that happens around here, it's tough to stop. Don't know if you've heard.

Anyway, all seems A-OK over in Turn 1 as clean-up continues, and the Daytona 500 is still set for a 4:30 start.

Let's just hope that's the last jet-dryer incident today. We've seen this movie before …

He swears they were going 200 mph even though they clearly were not.
