Bryson DeChambeau Is Leading The Masters With 3D Printed Clubs That Cost A Fortune To Make

Bryson DeChambeau – AKA your current Moving Day Masters co-leader – was in the lab creating his current set of irons till the very last second earlier this week.

That's right – the Mad Scientist was mixing and matching all the way up to the 11th hour on Tuesday, and waited until the last possible second to print those bad boys up and get the OK from the folks at Augusta National and the USGA.

Legend.

Masters leader Bryson DeChambeau is an animal

I mean, that's just an insane little nugget. Some old school folks will scoff at it and call Bryson a weirdo, but not me. I'm all in. That's a Leader of Men.

He's down there in the trenches with his team, making sure his clubs are absolutely perfect for Augusta. That's how you shoot 6-under through two days and lead the field coming to the green flag on Saturday.

From The Athletic:

One of the stories of the tournament has been not just DeChambeau’s impressive play — where he co-leads at 6-under par — but also his fascinating switch to a new set of custom-made, 3D-printed irons that were only approved by the USGA this week.

The approval was down to the wire, with DeChambeau receiving feedback last week they’d be non-conforming due to too sharp of groove edges. He didn’t receive full approval of the set made by a company called Avoda until early Tuesday morning. Despite the Masters being 48 hours away, he switched to them immediately and felt comfortable by the end of Wednesday. Thursday, he shot a first-round 65 for the solo lead.

Insane. Love this dude. DeChambeau later told the media that he's had the idea for these current clubs since 2020, and finally found someone to print them up just recently.

I said it earlier this week, and I'll say it again today – I've done a complete 180 on Bryson DeChambeau. Used to hate the guy. Thought he was a cocky little you-know-what who didn't know his ass from his elbow, and wore those stupid hats.

But here he is now, all grown up, printing out his own clubs for Augusta and leading The Masters on a Saturday.

He's also really stressed about it, too:

He's a reigning fantasy football league champion, knows everything there is to know about NASCAR, and once passed out (briefly!) during a lap around Daytona. He swears they were going 200 mph even though they clearly were not.
