Darius Rucker Sings Iconic Toby Keith Song At Grand Ole Opry

Darius Rucker put aside that pesky arrest from last week – we're #TeamHootie around here, by the way – to pay tribute to Toby Keith at the Grand Ole Opry Tuesday night.

And, not so shockingly, Hootie nailed it.

Just hours after Keith, 62, passed away from cancer in maybe the worst morning wake-up call of all time, Rucker took the stage in Nashville and pumped out an awesome rendition of a signature Toby Keith banger – God Love Her.

"We woke up to some sad news this morning," he said, according to Whiskey Riff. "Country music lost Toby Keith, and I wanted to do something special for Toby tonight. It’s one of his songs, my favorite Toby Keith song. So this goes out to Toby. R.I.P."

Turn the volume up to 100 and enjoy:

Ugh. Sucks, man. Toby Keith was just the best, and now he's just gone. Awful.

Still a solid move here from Darius Rucker, who spent a few hours in jail late last week because of a minor drug charge.

The Wagon Wheel singer was charged with two counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance and a single count of violating the state's vehicle registration law, according to the police report.

Whatever. That's not the point here.

The point here is that Darius Rucker showed up the Grand Ole Opry less than a week later and paid tribute to one of the greatest, most patriotic, baddest MFing country singers on the planet.

I grew up in the prime era of Toby Keith. Guy was a legend then and he still was right to the end.

The above song – God Love Her – was an anthem during my high school years. True story. I remember when it first came out it's all we listened to on the bus to away varsity baseball games. Just a banger from start to finish.

Glad Hootie showed up to pay his respects. RIP Toby Keith.

Zach grew up in Florida, lives in Florida, and will never leave Florida ... for obvious reasons. He's a reigning fantasy football league champion, knows everything there is to know about NASCAR, and once passed out (briefly!) during a lap around Daytona. He swears they were going 200 mph even though they clearly were not.
