President Biden apparently felt regretful — though not apologetic — when he phoned a Fox News reporter Monday evening. POTUS placed a call to Fox’s Peter Doocy to “clear the air” a short time after he was caught on a hot mic referring to Doocy as a “stupid son of a bitch.”
Doocy gave details about the phone call during an appearance on Hannity last night.
“He said, ‘It’s nothing personal, pal,'” said Doocy.
During a White House presser, Doocy asked Biden whether inflation would be a political liability, and Biden responded, “That’s a great asset. More inflation? What a stupid son of a bitch.”
The Biden team clearly thought a chat session with Doocy was necessary after Biden’s slip gave the term “SOB” a lengthy run through social media on Monday evening.
“We went back and forth, and we were talking about just kind of moving forward, and I made sure to tell him that I’m always gonna try to ask something different than what everybody else is asking,” Doocy relayed to Hannity. “And he said, ‘You got to.’ And that’s a quote from the president, so I’ll keep doing it.”
Though Biden called him, Doocy made it clear the call wasn’t necessarily an apology.
“He cleared the air, and I appreciate it.
“We had a nice call,” Doocy added.
That prompted Hannity to follow up: “That doesn’t sound like an apology.”
“He said, ‘It’s nothing personal, pal.’ And I told him that I appreciate him reaching out,” added Doocy. “…I don’t need anybody to apologize to me. He can call me whatever he wants as long as it gets him talking! I think that’s enough. That’s enough. So we can move on. We can now move forward.”
As for the unaddressed inflation… Biden will have to get back to us, he’s got another call coming in.
