Steve Sarkisian Announces Unexpected Arch Manning Update With Quinn Ewers Out

Arch Manning might not stay glued to the bench forever with Quinn Ewers sidelined with an injury.

The Texas star quarterback will miss time for the Longhorns after suffering a grade 2 AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder against Houston.

A lot of people immediately wondered if it would be Arch Manning's time in Austin with Ewers out. I urged people to slow their roll on the issue because Manning is QB3 on the depth chart.

Maalik Murphy is QB2, and will likely slide right into the QB1 role with Ewers out. However, the door isn't shut on Manning getting on the field.

Will Arch Manning play with Texas QB Quinn Ewers out?

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian announced Monday that Murphy and Manning will both get first team reps going into the game against BYU.

"If the game was being played today, Maalik would start the game. Again, Arch will be ready to go," Sark explained.

That's definitely not a no on whether or not Arch Manning will see the field.

Manning will take first team reps in practice.

Generally speaking, QB2 slides into the QB1 role when there's an injury and dominates first team reps in practice.

That's what most fans paying attention likely believed would happen with Murphy, who is still slated to start against BYU.

However, the fact Steve Sarkisian is staying Arch will be ready and will split first team reps in practice definitely leaves the door open for him playing.

Judging from some emails I've received at David.Hookstead@outkick.com, Texas fans would love to see Arch Manning - not Maalik Murphy - get the starting nod with Ewers out. They believe he's the future, and there's no point in wasting time.

Maalik Murphy will almost certainly start against the Cougars, but it appears Arch Manning playing can't be ruled out. There are a lot of fans definitely pulling for that to happen. We'll see how it shakes out Saturday, and shoot me an email with your opinion on who should be under center for the Longhorns with Ewers sidelined.
