OutKick Readers React To David Hookstead Spending Nearly $5,000 On Wisconsin/Alabama Game
OutKick readers are overwhelmingly in support of my decision to spend significant money to attend the Wisconsin/Alabama game.
I wrote a piece Tuesday asking what was the most money readers spent to attend a single college football game. Answers were all over the place.
Some OutKick readers' max spending was just a few hundred dollars. Others had spent several thousand. It was fascinating to see the wide range of answers.
OutKick readers weigh in on cost of Wisconsin/Alabama game:
In the piece, I revealed I'm spending right around $4,650 to attend the Wisconsin/Alabama game in Madison. It's by far the most money I've ever spent to attend a sporting event.
My trip to Lincoln, Nebraska in 2019 is second, but a very distant second. So, is it worth it? Is spending $4,650 to watch the biggest non-conference home game in program history with my dad worth it?
I obviously think it is, but I had to know what OutKick readers were also thinking. The results were overwhelmingly in support. Check out some of the responses below, and hit me with your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com:
For those of you who might have missed the original breakdown of the cost of attending the September 14th game in Madison, it's below:
- $2,500 for four tickets.
- $900 for roundtrip airfare.
- $550 for a hotel within 15 minutes of Camp Randall and State Street for two nights.
- $200 expected Uber fares from leaving for the airport to returning home.
- $500 expected food and drink for three days.
It was definitely cool seeing so many OutKick readers weigh in. I would say that about 95% of the responses say the decision to spend the money is justified, and obviously, I agree!
Here's the reality of the situation. I do not spend much money. It's just the way I was raised. I grew up in a rural Wisconsin community where people do not have much money. Fortunately, I grew up above the median average, but far from being rich.
I don't own fancy clothes, I take one pretty cheap vacation a year to Las Vegas and I save most of the money I make. No, I don't fly private, I don't do luxurious things and I don't eat out (mostly because I just hate the quality of food). So, if I have to spend $4,650 to attend the Wisconsin/Alabama game with my dad, then so be it! You never know how long you're going to be here for. We all might as well splurge from time to time to make some amazing memories. Win or lose, the money is well-spent in my mind, and clearly, OutKick readers agree.
I can't wait to be in Madison for the weekend, and trust me when I say that I'll be chronicling it all for our great readers. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
