College Football Fans Reveal Most Money Spent On A Game. Did David Hookstead Spend Too Much?

What's the most money you've spent on a single college football game?

As OutKick readers know, this site is made up of people who love college football. It's the backbone of the American spirit, and I'll never apologize for loving this country's greatest sport.

Nothing beats an electric college football atmosphere, but big games come with big price tags. I just purchased everything for a trip to Madison for Wisconsin vs. Alabama (more on that later), and it had me wondering just how much other people have spent.

Naturally, I had to take to X to figure out what's the highest amount of money people have spent including everything for a game.

I'm talking about tickets, flights, hotel and food. The reality is that the answers are all over the place. Take a look at some below, and let me know any stories you have at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

First, I have to give a quick shoutout to Joe Kinsey. The man got into the legendary 2014 Ole Miss/Alabama game after somehow pulling off a $20 handshake deal.

Here are a handful of other answers.

So, that leads me to the Wisconsin/Alabama purchases I've had to make for the game. Keep in mind that I'm just a regular dude. I'm not Elon Musk. I don't fly private, despite what some idiots claim. I don't take fancy vacations at mega-resorts. I don't buy fancy things. It's just not who I am. The bills get paid, a little is left over for a couple cold beers with the boys and I do a blue-collar trip every year to Vegas.

I have to be in Madison for the game, and I made the decision that the Crimson Tide coming to town was worth a trip back to my home state. Who knows how many years I have left on this rock we call Earth? I might as well enjoy it while I can, and that led me to pulling the trigger.

Here's a breakdown of what I spent:

  • $2,500 for four tickets.
  • $900 for roundtrip airfare.
  • $550 for a hotel within 15 minutes of Camp Randall and State Street for two nights.
  • $200 expected Uber fares from leaving for the airport to returning home.
  • $500 expected food and drink for three days.

Math was never my biggest strength, but that puts me at $4,650 for the Wisconsin/Alabama game. Is it worth it? You're damn right it's worth it. My biggest regret when it comes to sports is deciding to not go to the Wisconsin/Kentucky Final Four game in 2015. I won't make that mistake again.

Is it a lot of money? Without a doubt, and it's by far and away the most I've ever spent for a single sporting event…..and it could still go up!

It's still money well-spent. It'll be worth every penny to be in Camp Randall with my family watching what might be the biggest home non-conference game in school history. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com!
