Will Oregon Ducks Honor Big Fan Charlie Kirk With Tribute At Next Home Game In Eugene?

Kirk was a big Ducks fan

Many are still reeling from the horrific assassination of activist and media personality Charlie Kirk earlier this week during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

The tragedy shook the world and led to tributes around the globe, even at places like Yankee Stadium and Lambeau Field.

However, there weren't too many tributes ahead of the weekend's slate of college football games. At least not many that took place in stadiums. Surely, some players hit the field this weekend who had Kirk and his family on their mind or in their prayers before they ran out of the tunnel.

Many vigils and memorials have been held on campuses as well, fitting as Kirk did much of his most well-known work on college campuses.

But, it makes you wonder, and we are trying to find out, whether or not Kirk's favorite college football team, the Oregon Ducks, will pay tribute to him at their next home game in Eugene, which just so happens to be when they take on their archrivals, the Oregon State Beavers.

Kirk somewhat famously didn't go to college and grew up in the Chicago area, but was a well-known Ducks fan.

Coincidentally, the Ducks played their first game after his death against Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois, not far from his hometown.

Obviously, you being the visiting team, the Ducks don't get much say in pregame ceremonies, but they do next weekend.

After the Ducks' 34-14 win over Northwestern, head coach Dan Lanning did offer some heartfelt remarks about Kirk.

"I recently found out Charlie Kirk was an Oregon fan, right? I didn't know that. I hurt for his wife, Erika, and their kids. That sort of evil should never exist in our country, and that's what it is — evil. I remember having to explain that to my family, right? I remember sitting down my kids and explaining what happened, and they're talking about people talking about it at school. And it's just sad, right?" Lanning said.

Will the Ducks hold a moment of silence next weekend at Autzen Stadium? It seems like it would be quite fitting.

OutKick has reached out to the University's athletic program and asked whether or not the Ducks honored Kirk prior to their game against Northwestern, or if there are plans in the works to honor Kirk next week. We have yet to hear back.
