New York Yankees Honor Charlie Kirk With Tribute, Sports World Rallies After Assassination

Wednesday was a dark day in America. Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated during a Turning Point event at Utah Valley University. Kirk tragically died at age 31.

The sports community showed a widespread outpouring of support and tributes to the brave political commentator.

The New York Yankees held a moment of silence Wednesday evening for Kirk, before their matchup with the Detroit Tigers.

In tribute to Kirk, Yankee Stadium displayed a picture of the late activist, whose death continues to be deeply mourned.

The Yankees’ social media account on X shared the following tribute:

"Before tonight's game we held a moment of silence in memoriam of Charlie Kirk. Kirk founded the youth activist group "Turning Point USA" and had become a fixture on college campuses. Charlie Kirk, a husband and father of two children, was 31 years old."

Kirk was a true Chicago Cubs fan.

Yankees fans had a positive reaction to seeing their team go against the mainstream current by not just honoring the political commentator, but standing in unison with America against Wednesday's grotesque act of political violence.

One fan responded, "I love the Yankees more than ever right now for this."

Another added, "RIP, no matter what side you're on this is devastating."

As of 8 p.m. (ET), FBI Director Kash Patel shared that Kirk's assassin was still at large.

Auburn coach Bruce Pearl was among the many to remember Kirk in the aftermath of his death.

"Charlie was an optimist! He was leading a revival of conservative Christian values and the happiness it could lead to! Charlie is irreplaceable! A true evangelist," Pearl posted on X.

"Condolences to his family and the young people of this country. Many in our Auburn student body are horrified tonight, you young patriots who love our country like Charlie. For now let's mourn, keep the violent rhetoric down and then live our best lives, committed to making this country better."

Attention once again turns to Yankee Stadium on Thursday, where President Donald J. Trump is scheduled to attend the Yankees-Tigers game, honoring the fallen victims of September 11, 2001, on the tragic event's 24th anniversary. Enhanced security protocols will be in effect. 

A Tribute, And Prayer For Charlie Kirk (1993-2025)

Kirk's faith proved to be a major point of support coming from athletes. Familiar names from the NFL to the NBA and more leagues commemorated Kirk — a figure beloved by America but contested by the mainstream media.

Even if liking Kirk wasn't popular with the media, athletes still saw tenacity in Kirk's political career and embraced his courage to step into the political arena with enough gall to not just take it but also dish it, and with good research to back him up.

Kirk’s appeal to the sports community was that of a fearless servant of God, beloved by his fellow warriors.
