Patriots WR Calls 'The Dynasty' Documentary 'Awful,' Made Belichick Look 'Bad'

The New England Patriots are the subject of a 10-part documentary on Apple TV called "The Dynasty." The series revolves around the 20-year run of the franchise that was led by head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.

During that stretch, the team won six Super Bowls. It was one of the greatest runs in professional sports history, especially when given the length of dominance, stretching from 2000-2020.

Because the documentary covers such large ground, and because it's ostensibly designed as entertainment, there are ups-and-downs that the series dives into.

But one current New England Patriots player, who wasn't around during that stretch, says the documentary is "awful."

Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, who joined the Patriots as a free agent in 2021, told Boston.com that he didn't like the series, particularly the portrayal of Belichick.

"I think [the documentary is] awful … It made Bill look bad and I love Bill. I love everything he stood for," Bourne said. He added that the filmmakers did a good job showing the history, which he enjoyed, but thought it led to people misunderstanding the team and the head coach.

"I was kind of on the fence about it because I love the history part, but I hate how they made Bill Belichick look. I hate how they tried to make it look divided. I think every team goes through that, but when you’re a dynasty, and you win a lot people still try to discredit it."

Many former Patriots have come out against Belichick, not appreciating his militant-style of coaching. However, it's inarguable that he helped the team win six Super Bowls, so it's hard to discredit him too much.

Plus, there was the recent report that Robert Kraft tried to sabotage Belichick when he tried to get a head coaching job after leaving New England following this past NFL season.

It does seem a bit weird that everyone wants to pile on Belichick now that he's out of coaching (for now). He probably appreciates Bourne coming to his defense, since there aren't many people on that side of the fence right now.

However, defensive back Stephon Gilmore also recently went to bat for Belichick over how "The Dynasty" portrayed the former Patriots head coach.

Perhaps the tide is turning in Bill Belichick's favor, which is good news since he wants to keep coaching in the NFL and seeks an opportunity for next season.
