Matt Barnes Posts Vulgar Response To Altercation With High School Announcer

Matt Barnes needs help. Stat. The ex-NBA player dipped back into the headlines over the weekend, after intimidating a high school announcer during his son's basketball game. He alleged that the high school senior told Barnes to "shut up," prompting Barnes to get close and place a hand on the high schooler's shoulder.

Barnes kept the discourse going online, still disappointing fellow adults as more evidence shows Barnes started the commotion.

The more witnesses at Friday's game opted to speak up, the more Barnes' story crumbled.

Barnes responded to one woman's account of the scene on X. The 14-year NBA vet posted a vulgar response, placing the blame on the student announcer, Jake Lancer, for the scene.

"Shut ur a** up," Barnes posted, "I was talking to the ref not you or that kid that decided to say some slick sh*t. Don’t let that privileged HW sh*t go to your head. Idgaf who your son is."

Barnes also went off on a Sacramento Bee reporter as he desperately attempted to defend his dignity.

"You weak a**holes are always trying to tell one side of the story," Barnes told reporter Jason Anderson.

He added, "You reach out after the fact. F**k you!"

Barnes accused the announcer of telling him to ‘shut up’ amid Barnes' tirade with the official. The 43-year-old stepped up to the kid and put a hand on his shoulder. Neighboring adults jumped in and fans in attendance jeered Barnes as he disengaged from his altercation with the high school senior.

Sound from Crespi's broadcast supported Jake Lancer's side of the story. The announcer kept detailing the action, even as Barnes stepped on the court to argue with refs over a technical foul called on his son.

Lancer did not utter an offense toward Barnes during the live coverage.

"Matt Barnes now is onto the floor — or not on the floor, [but] he’s right on the side of the floor, just screaming," Lancer shared. "‘You’re an (expletive).' I mean, that’s ridiculous. He’s out on the floor right now and there’s no one doing anything about it. I get he’s an NBA player, but I mean, I don’t think that’s, yeah."

Friday's game between Harvard-Westlake High School and Crespi Carmelite High School briefly halted in the third quarter due to Barnes' regrettable behavior.

Lancer spoke on the scene after the game, "Matt Barnes kinda came up and just put his hands on me, actually," Lancer said. "I mean, I’m all good but — I don’t know."
