Lenny Dykstra Out Of ICU After Suffering Stroke, Ex-Mets Teammates Say

News broke on Wednesday that MLB great Lenny Dykstra was in the hospital after suffering a stroke. Now some of his teammates are providing an update on his condition.

Two of Dykstra's teammates from the World Series-winning 1986 New York Mets — Darryl Strawberry and Kevin Mitchell — provided an update on Dykstra's condition.

They told The New York Post that they had spoken to Dykstra, and they revealed that he is out of the intensive care unit, but is still recovering in a Los Angeles hospital.

"He knew it was me, so that is always a good sign," Strawberry said. "He’s in the process of recovering."

That's good to hear. Dykstra — or "Nails" as he's known — was on some of the best MLB teams of the last 40 years. Not only was he a member of the ‘86 Mets, but he was also a member of the ’93 Phillies that came up short of a World Series title against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Dykstra's close friend, Mitchell, said he told Dykstra to make sure he is taking care of himself as he gets older.

"He’s laying down, but he is being Lenny," Mitchell told The Post. "We get to an age now where we have got to take care of ourselves. I told him he has to take more care of himself. You can’t let stress bother you. He’s been through a lot. I love him with all my heart."

There haven't been too many updates about the time frame for Dykstra's recovery, however, Mitchell did say that the 61-year-old is expected to remain in the hospital until at least next week.
