Justin Fields Gives Cheeky Answer For Unfollowing Chicago Bears On Instagram

For the most part, Justin Fields is handling this turbulent offseason with equanimity. Fields remains in the spotlight as his Chicago Bears mull over keeping the ‘franchise’ QB or drafting a new one with the No. 1 overall pick.

Earlier this week, Fields unfollowed the Bears on Instagram. Almost immediately, the separation rumors poured in. And where did they trickle in? Social media, of course.

The 24-year-old is manning up to his decision. Fields addressed his social media ‘discourse’ with the Bears, talking to brothers Equanimeous St. Brown and Amon-Ra St. Brown on their 33rd Team podcast.

Fields admitted that he's escaping fodder on social media with a rocky path ahead to the NFL Draft. He had fun with the situation: likening it to ‘messing’ around with a girl but not following her on socials. Because everyone's been through that … right?

"I know y’all mess with a girl … EQ, especially you. Just because you don’t follow the girl on IG don’t mean you not messing with her," Fields shared.

In any case: the less social media, the better. Fields has so far evaded the pressure of potentially being replaced. As a dual-threat QB, Fields surpassed expectations in his role and has kept the heat off the Bears for essentially dragging his career with the organization's more macro issues. In 2023, Fields famously tallied 1,143 rushing yards that season, the second-most total by an NFL QB ever.

Last season, Fields improved his efficiency as a passer, clearing another bar set by an offensively ignorant franchise. Fields hit career highs in passing yards and completion percentage but still could not elevate the Bears past a 7-10 record. He also squeezed the most out of his top wideout, DJ Moore, who logged 1,364 receiving yards in 2023.

Yes, the QB2/RB1 chants come out in opposition to Fields … in the modern league, Fields' style of play trumps playing behind a sub-par pocket passing QB, which many teams in the NFL currently dread.

No doubt about it — ask the New York Giants.
