Dan Le Batard Really, Really Hates Zach Edey, Calls Him A ‘Plague’

If you've ever rooted for a team that plays against Purdue, you know how frustrating Zach Edey is for opponents. But perhaps no one hates him more than Da Le Batard.

During Monday’s episode of The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, Le Batard unleashed an unhinged rant about the 7-foot-4 center and his tendency to take up space in the paint.

"Look, Edey, you made my life worse. You and Wisconsin made my life worse. All of you, just getting in the way of everybody. Just playing basketball by getting in the way," Le Batard said.

"Zach Edey just plants himself like a tree. I haven’t seen a body like that since Yao Ming’s. And his ankles are bigger than anyone’s thighs. And we’re distorting the sport. Have you seen [Victor] Wembanyama? Like he just stands over these 6-10 people who are bigger than anyone you’ve ever seen and just places the ball over them in the basket."

Le Batard had previously stated that if Edey played in the 1980s, he would have been drafted ahead of Michael Jordan.

"Are you saying Zach Edey is going to be better than Michael Jordan?" his co-host Jon "Stugotz" Weiner asked.

"No!" Le Batard yelled. "He’s going to be terrible. He can’t move… It’s so un-aesthetically pleasing. Zach Edey is a plague, I’m sorry. Purdue, you’re a plague."

"Plague" might be a little dramatic. But Zach Edey is a two-time Consensus first-team All-American, a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year and the reigning National Player of the Year. Luckily for Le Batard, this NCAA Tournament is the last time he'll have to see the big man in a Purdue uniform — as Edey has decided to forego his final year of eligibility.

The bad news for Le Batard, though, is the Boilermakers aren't done yet. Top-seeded Purdue will attempt to punch a ticket to the Sweet 16 on Sunday at 2:40 p.m ET against the Utah State Aggies.
