Scottie Pippen Calls Out Jordan, Barkley In New Book

Six-time NBA champ Scottie Pippen is undoubtedly a winner, but he still has some things to get off his chest.

The former Chicago Bull hasn't hidden his feelings toward former teammate Michael Jordan, and in his memoir, Unguarded, he describes that he always felt he was in the shadow of the superstar, the New York Post reports.

In the memoir, which he co-wrote with Michael Arkush, the 56-year-old Pippen elaborates on his illustrious career with the ’90s Chicago Bulls and how he was always a better teammate than Jordan, the outlet writes.

Pippen says that Jordan would “never have become” superstar Jordan “without me.”

Pippen says he hated the media portrayal that he was a perpetual Robin to Jordan’s Batman — and that his relationship with “the immortal Jordan” was mostly always distant, the Post reports.

“Michael and I aren’t close and never have been,” he writes.

Pippen’s dream of feeling wanted and well-paid was fulfilled when he next joined the Houston Rockets in 1999 for a five-year deal that paid $67 million and said he looking forward to working out with a team that included Charles Barkley.

Instead of practicing with the team, Barkley was playing golf with Jordan, and Pippen didn't like that. Pippen said he wanted Barkley on the floor with the whole team — not on the golf course.

Pippen played 17 NBA seasons, winning six championships with the Chicago Bulls.

Over the summer, Pippen suggested his former head coach Phil Jackson was a racist when discussing the 1994 playoff game against the New York Knicks, and that’s why Jackson put Toni Kukoc in to take the final shot.

“I was so hurt when he picked Toni over me that I needed to come up with an explanation for why I was rejected,” he writes, per the New York Post. “So I told myself at the time that Phil’s decision must have been racially motivated. Only when I saw my words in print did it dawn on me how wrong I was — after thirty years!”

Pippen's memoir, Unguarded, is available for preorder and set to be released Nov. 9.
