Rules For Thee, Not For Me: Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Thanksgiving Plans Include His Mother

As if California Governor Gavin Newsom breaking his own protocols for a dinner with friends at one of America’s most expensive restaurants wasn’t enough to send people into a rage over hypocrisy, now comes the news that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo plans on having his 89-year-old mother, Matilda, over for Thanksgiving. Mom lives in Manhattan and is expected to make the trip north to the governor’s mansion for the holiday.

“The story is, my mom is going to come up and two of my girls,” the governor told Albany, New York radio station WAMC. “But the plans change. But that’s my plan.”

Just last week, Cuomo told New Yorkers to think twice about hosting family gathering for the holiday. “My personal advice is you don’t have family gatherings — even for Thanksgiving,” he said during a media conference call. “I don’t want to endanger our families, endanger our friends,” he added.

Now Cuomo is expecting daughters Michaela, 22, and Cara, 25, to be at the family Thanksgiving, along with Grandma.

Cara’s twin sister, Mariah, is in Chicago, and Dad advised her to stay put and not come back.

“We go through all the logic, and we decide she’s not going to come home for Thanksgiving. And then she starts to cry, and she said, ‘I feel so bad … I was looking forward to seeing you, and I can’t get there,’” Cuomo recalled.

“Those of you who have children know when your child cries, it kills you. You feel pain worse than they feel pain,” he said.

Word quickly spread Monday about the governor’s quick change in opinion on having a family Thanksgiving event.

“Governor Cuomo definitely deserves an award for best actor in the fictional story lines that he’s created, declaring himself a great leader,” said Nick Langworthy, the Republican Party chairman in New York.

Cuomo has had a busy holiday week. Monday morning, he accepted a Founders Award from the Emmys for his “effective use of television during the pandemic.”

  1. This is what the left wants: neo feudalism. They are the knights in shiny armor and we’re peasants to them. Well my French ancestors eventually revolted and sent them to the guillotine. Hopefully they don’t push the limits too far b/c they will deserve a nasty ending if we taxpayers have to pay for their lavish lifestyle while they make us slaves.

  2. I really want to thank yet another progressive governor for providing clarity to the rest of us relative to how seriously we should all take this virus. He and Governor Newsom are like bookends. They always make it so they somehow never feel the sting of their own questionable policies and decisions. Both Cuomo and Newsom know they are immune from removal from office because the politically myopic voter bases in their respective states. I feel badly for those who did not vote for either of these so called “leaders”. Both of these men are well versed in making sure that we all have awareness regarding the pandemic and other issues.

So remember, the great thing about having awareness is that you don’t actually have to do anything.

  3. What a heartless bastard to ban one of his daughter’s from coming to Thanksgiving. He doesn’t even have a two-household limit to abide by like Newsom in CA. Even more heartless is trying to generate sympathy from others for doing it.
