Urban Meyer Apologizes To All Of Jacksonville
Former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer said he believes the team become great but said he's sorry he won't be there to see it.
Meyer told NFL Network he was "heartbroken" over the way his 13-game tenure with the franchise ended and that he's sorry — he signed a five-year contract with the team in January and was fired early Thursday morning.
"I just apologize to Jacksonville," Meyer said. "I love Jacksonville. It's one of the reasons I took the job. I still think Shad a great owner. It's heartbreaking. I just had a dream of it becoming a destination place with a new facility he agreed to build and some day to walk into that stadium where it's standing room only. Because I know how bad the people of Jacksonville want it."
Meyer said he's "just heartbroken that we weren't able to do that," but believes it's going to be done.
OutKick's Alejandro Avilo previously reported more details of Meyer's first interview since his firing, which can be read here.
It was also reported Friday that team owner Shad Khan fired Meyer for cause with the intention of not paying him the remaining four years of his contract.
