Ron Rivera: Some 'Real-Life Sh*t' Proved To Be Major Obstacle In Washington's Season

It was the ugliest of losses for the Washington Football Team. Not only did it get rocked by a 56-14 count against the rival Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, it just looked like a miserable mess of mass incoherence.

As you likely know by now, former Alabama teammates and current Washington defensive linemen Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne scuffled on the sideline, with the whole football-loving world watching.

There was a time, and not long ago, that the football team was smack dab ion the middle of the NFC playoff picture. But you can forget all that now. They're 6-9 and have been outscored by a 110-59 in the last three games.

That's not exactly racing to the finish line.

So Washington coach Ron Rivera, for one, isn't surprised that emotions are boiling over and fingers are being pointed.

“You have to deal with those things, and it’s tough. It’s not easy to try to separate and compartmentalize situations like that. It spills over,” Rivera told reporters. “It’s human nature. These guys are more than just robots. These guys have feelings. These are players; these are people. They got a teammate going through something right now. It’s tough.

"You have an opportunity, and you don’t have everybody playing. That’s hard on them. That’s not normal shit. That’s real-life shit, and that’s what they’re dealing with. These are young men, and we’re just trying to help them along the way.”

It's true that Washington hasn't had everyone playing, as the league marches on with its silly coronavirus testing of asymptomatic players.

So yeah, it can be frustrating.

“It definitely affects us, but as professionals it’s our job to go out there and play good football, which, for the last two weeks, has been probably some of the worst football I’ve ever been a part of, including myself,” Allen said. “We have no one to blame but ourselves.”
