University of Nebraska president Ted Carter was caught on a hot mic today saying, “We’re getting ready to announce the Huskers and Big Ten football tonight.” KETV, an ABC affiliate in Nebraska, has video of the comment.
Over the weekend, Outkick founder Clay Travis reported that the Big Ten was eyeing a return to football season on October 17th and a conference championship game on December 19th.
Why the Big Ten is holding off on this announcement instead of delivering the good news immediately is anyone’s guess. As we speak, Wisconsin chancellor Rebecca Blank is testifying to Congress today as part of name, image, and likeness deliberations, and dancing around the question of whether and when the Big Ten will return to play:
Rebecca Blank declines to "speak to" reports that B1G is re-evaluating playing.
Would it require unanimous vote, she is asked.
“I can’t say what the vote is going to look like. … We almost always decide everything by consensus.”

It should be noted that Nebraska is the institution that has most fervently fought for the return to play throughout all this, so while it would be astounding for Carter to have gotten this wrong in a conversation he thought was private we still need to see the announcement of the final vote to believe that it’s 100 percent legit.
“Why the Big Ten is holding off on this announcement instead of delivering the good news immediately is anyone’s guess.”
Because the usual suspects — Whitmer, Klobuchar et al. are doing everything they can to prevent the Big Ten from playing.
