Alabama's Nick Saban Tests Positive for Covid-19, Steve Sarkisian Leading Team for Georgia Week

The SEC made it several weeks without Covid-19 dramatically affecting the conference's season, but there has been major impact from the virus this week. The latest: Alabama announced that coach Nick Saban and athletic director Greg Byrne have tested positive.

“I found out earlier this afternoon that I had tested positive for Covid-19," Saban said in a statement. "I immediately left work and isolated at home. At this time, I do not have any symptoms relative to Covid."

Saban, 68, said that Steve Sarkisian "will oversee preparations at the complex while I work from home."

Sarkisian, Alabama's offensive coordinator, was previously the head coach at USC and Washington.

Alabama plays Georgia Saturday in primetime in a marquee matchup between the second and third ranked teams in the nation.

This week, Vanderbilt-Missouri and LSU-Florida have been postponed due to Covid-19 outbreaks at Vanderbilt and Florida. Ole Miss-Arkansas could be in limbo as Ole Miss has experienced an outbreak. The SEC has two bye weeks built into the season to account for these postponements.
