Phillies Fans Head For Exits Before NLCS Game 6 Ends Against Diamondbacks

Gotta beat that Philadelphia traffic! The Arizona Diamondbacks took a 5-1 lead over the Phillies into the ninth inning of Game 6 in the National League Championship Series (NLCS).

With the Phillies leading the series 3-2, a win meant a trip to the World Series. But, through eight innings, the series appeared headed for a Game 7. Of course, the Phillies have a prolific offense that could erase a four-run deficit.

However, many Phillies fans decided that wasn't going to happen and said "see ya for Game 7."

OutKick's Ian Miller recently countered the idea that Philadelphia Phillies fans are the "best in baseball."

"The Phillies fanbase isn’t any worse or better than any other, they’re excited when their team does well, and disinterested when they’re bad," Miller wrote.

I defended Philadelphia fans on several OutKick editorial calls with my colleagues. As someone who went to a Phillies game as an opposing fan, I can tell you they care. Perhaps too much.

However, heading for the exits prior to the end of a National League Championship Series game doesn't help my argument.

An OutKick executive wrote on our internal message board, "Hey this is amazing. I’ve read all over Philly fans are the best in the world. And they’re booing their team. I don’t get it."

That's true, Phillies fans booed several times, including when the team brought in reliever Craig Kimbrel.

I have to give credit where credit is due. Philadelphia fans have a bad reputation. They did throw snowballs at Santa Claus, after all.

But, although I'm not even a Philadelphia fan (I grew up in western Pennsylvania), they're making me look bad just for slightly defending them!

That's hard to do. Congratulations, Philadelphia.
