Derrius Guice has been released by the Washington Football Team following a troubling situation that has resulted in charges that include violent offenses.
The former LSU running back and second round pick is currently facing one count of strangulation, which is a felony, as well as three counts of assault and battery, and one count of destruction of property. The three counts of assault and battery were registered on three separate occasions, dating Feb. 14, March 13, and April 17, all at Guice’s residence.
Guice turned himself in to the Loudoun Adult Detention Center after 5 p.m Friday evening and was released on bond shortly before 7:30 p.m.
The team was notified of the potential for his arrest on Thursday and then released him prior to his leaving the center. The team made a statement as follows.

With the recent scandal that surrounded the Football Team, this was the only acceptable move that could be made as many teams in the NFL have moved towards a zero tolerance policy for domestic violence.
From an on-field perspective this likely means that Adrian Peterson will begin the season as the starting back. He lead Washington with 211 carries and figures to be in that mix again.
Beyond Peterson is a group of unproven products and few depth pieces that could intrigue.
Washington added Peyton Barber and J.D. McKissic in the offseason, though neither inspire much confidence.
Where things could get interesting is with two younger players.
Antonio Gibson was taken out of Memphis where he produced over 1,100 yards and was versatile out of the backfield in the pass game — a place where Peterson has become almost a non-factor.
It could also open an opportunity for Bryce Love, a forgotten player who has battled injuries since his going for over 2,000 yards during junior season in Stanford. He fell to a fourth round pick after tearing his ACL and subsequently missed all of 2019. Love has been cleared for 2020 and if he can regain the burst he showed in college may push for time later in the year.
