Sydney Sweeney Is Looking Forward To Using Sex As A Weapon In 'Barbarella' Remake

Sydney Sweeney's incredible run isn't ending anytime soon.  She's rolled from one movie release to another, thrown in SNL hosting duties for fun, and even had her boobs community noted recently.

That's enough for anyone to be looking forward to a little break in the schedule.  Lucky for all of her fans, Sydney doesn't require much sleep and already has her eye on some upcoming projects.  Like the Barbarella remake.

The remake of the 1968 movie that starred Jane Fonda was announced in 2022.  During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, host Josh Horowitz asked if the movie was still happening.

Sydney replied, "It is."  Before adding, "I mean, Barbarella is just such a fun character to explore."

She looks at the character "who travels from planet to planet and has numerous adventures... often involving sex" as an interesting introduction to sci-fi.  That it certainly is.

"She really just embraces her femininity and her sexuality, and I love that.  She uses sex as a weapon and I think it’s such an interesting way into a sci-fi world," she continued.  "I’ve always wanted to do sci-fi.  So we’ll see what happens."

Sydney Sweeney Bringing Back Barbarella Sounds Like A Great Idea

That sounds like the perfect role for someone who has been fighting the good fight against what the haters of pop culture have been trying to shove down everyone's throats.

When it came to who was going to direct the movie, Sydney wasn't as forthcoming with information.  Horowitz specifically asked about Edgar Wright, who has directed films like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

Sydney was spotted with Wright at the premiere of her most recent movie to hit theaters, Immaculate.  If he is directing the Barbarella remake, she's not saying.

It's going to be a while before we see anything from the Barbarella remake.  In addition to her recent string of movies that started in December with Anyone But You, she has a couple in post-production.

Echo Valley and Eden are both expected to be released in 2024.  What's several more months of waiting when the movie originally came out in 1968?  Is sci-fi ready for Sydney Sweeney?  It sounds like we're going to find out.
