Ravens, Orioles Combine To Make $10 Million Donation To Baltimore Bridge Fund

The Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles have teamed up to donate $10 million to the Baltimore Community Foundation's Maryland Tough Baltimore Strong Key Bridge Fund. Each franchise contributed $5 million to the fund.

On March 26, the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed in a matter of seconds after a cargo ship lost power and crashed into one of its support beams. Authorities believe six construction workers plunged to their deaths in the Patapsco River, and several vehicles were also on the bridge at the time of impact.

"Our heartfelt condolences are with the victims of this tragedy and their families," Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said in statement on Friday. "We are thankful to our first responders for their bravery and tireless work.

"The Ravens are honored to support the Francis Scott Key Bridge recovery efforts and affected Maryland families and businesses. We are confident that Baltimore and Maryland will keep displaying tremendous spirit and strength during this time of great need."

After the tragedy, several Ravens players expressed their condolences on social media.

New Orioles owner David M. Rubenstein, who bought the team earlier this year, also released a statement.

"The resiliency of our city has once again been sorely tested," Rubenstein said. "Under the leadership of Governor Wes Moore, and in collaboration with the Ravens, the Orioles offer this contribution to support those who keep our city, our state, and our country in business."

The Orioles held a moment of silence before their home opener to honor the victims.

The fund will support recovery efforts for families, first responders, port workers, communities and small businesses affected by the accident.
