Is 'Civil War' The Most Tactically Accurate War Movie Ever Made? Retired Special Operations Member Weighs In

"Civil War" might have the most tactically accurate combat scene ever put on film, according to a former Special Operations member.

As OutKick readers know, the entertainment world and social media have been talking nonstop about the Alex Garland film since its release last week, and it even took the top spot at the weekend box office.

I had the opportunity to see it Friday, and really enjoyed it. Is it unbelievably dark and brutal as viewers watch the ending stages of a civil war wind down? Yes, but I still couldn't look away.

*SPOILERS BELOW*

"Civil War" has incredibly tactically accurate final scene.

In the closing 15 minutes of the movie, the Western Forces reach the White House and shoot it out with the President's last remaining men and protection.

The scene is absolutely stunning. Everything from the sound of the bullets to the way the soldiers flowed through the building felt incredibly real.

Well, turns out that it was very sound from a tactical standpoint, according to a retired member of Marine Special Operations I spoke with.

"It is the single most tactically and technically accurate military film that I have EVER seen. It’s more tactically accurate than Black Hawk Down, The Contractor, SEAL Team, The Terminal List, or any other military production I’ve ever seen. In fact, it’s so tactically accurate, that there were literally moments in it when I was concerned about actual current, sensitive methods being given away to America’s enemies. Like, they even showed the actors doing things like deconfliction procedures during CQB. Military tech advisors usually avoid showing stuff that’s sensitive to current real world operations, in Hollywood productions," the retired Marine Special Operations member, whose name I'm withholding, explained.

Just how tactically accurate is the movie? The retired Marine felt that the audience might be confused by some of the movements and tactics shown.

"The movie is so tactically accurate that the audience is going to be confused by what they’re seeing at times. [The military advisor] is to be commended for how technically accurate this movie is, and how well he trained his actors. This movie even showed extremely minute details between how units with less elite vs more elite training function and operate, and showed exactly how troops with different levels of training would work together if they had to fight alongside each other, if they were thrown together and forced to work as a cohesive fire team on the battlefield, outside of a pre-established unit. And it did so with remarkable accuracy. Every hand-and-arm signal, every battle command, every movement, every maneuver, everything was spot the f*ck on," he continued.

For those of you who have seen the movie, you know exactly how real the closing moments feel. When I was watching it, I literally found myself thinking to myself I can't believe how realistic this is. I don't want to spoil too much, but you'll know what I mean as soon as you see it.
