Yankees Acquire Anthony Rizzo From Cubs

Videos by OutKick

If there was any question as to whether the Yankees would be buyers or sellers ahead of Friday’s trade deadline, we have our answer. A day after trading for All-Star Joey Gallo, New York cemented their status as deadline buyers by acquiring Anthony Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs.

One of the most popular Cubs of the last decade, Rizzo was sent to the Yankees in exchange for two minor leaguers, outfielder Kevin Alcantara, pitcher Alexander Vizcaino, and cash. Rizzo had a slash line of .248/.346/.446 to go along with 14 homers for Chicago this summer. Out of contention, the Cubs were looking to move on from the veteran, who can become a free agent after the season.

Rizzo heads to the Bronx a day after All-Star outfielder Joey Gallo was traded from Texas. New York is hoping the bats of Gallo and Rizzo will add some much needed pop to a lineup that has the Yanks sitting just five games above .500, and third in the American League East.

The newly-acquired Rizzo will likely start at first base, opening the possibility that New York will seek a new home for current first baseman Luke Voit.

Major League Baseball’s trade deadline is tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.

  1. Lmfao imagine being a yankee fan and watching Cashman dole out the checkbook recklessly like this and wondering why other fanbases can’t stand your franchise and ruthlessly mocks it for being stuck in 1992. I mean seriously what a joke he clearly he has no clue what he’s doing just throwing shit at the wall for whatever big name he can get his hands on rn to appease the fanbase.
