Yankees 1B Luke Voit Ready To Return From Knee Surgery As Pinstripes Get Ready To Host Tampa

The New York Yankees have had a tough start to the 2021 season, but they are set to get a boost, now that first basemen Luke Voit is slated to return.

If everything goes right, Voit will be back on the diamond on Tuesday night when the Yankees open up a critical early season series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Voit continues to work his way back from knee surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus, and he has been fantastic in the minors. He hit a homer and a double as a DH on Sunday, the 5th game of a rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He also played seven innings at first base Saturday and was batting 7-for-18 with three home runs.

There's no question that if Voit can hit like he has in the minors, he will make a big impact on the team's lineup as they get ready to push the Red Sox for the top spot in the AL East.

The Yankees are currently 18-16 in the AL East, 3.5 games back of Boston in the division. The Rays enter play Monday at 19-17, 3.5 back of the Red Sox.

The Yankees sent Miguel Andujar back to Triple-A after he went 0-for-9 in three games with the Yankees, opening up a role for Voit come Tuesday.
