Why Was Gamecocks Fan Darius Rucker At Trevor Lawrence's Party?

Yes, that was huge South Carolina Gamecocks fan Darius Rucker hanging out at the Trevor Lawrence draft party Thursday night where such dignitaries as Dabo Swinney were in the house to celebrate a huge moment for Clemson athletics. And there was Darius hanging in the shadows having to enjoy the success in the name of MGC Sports, the agency that Lawrence is signed to.

Rucker became a partner in the Nashville-based MGC Sports back in 2016. "If I didn't see Jay Z crushing it in the business like he is, I probably wouldn't have done it," Rucker told ESPN after he joined the company. "But I think I have a lot to offer."

"The sports agent business is definitely a cutthroat business," Rucker added. "I think I have a lot to offer, coming from my upbringing to where I got to. We're not going to be that firm that offers $100,000 marketing guarantees as loans, but I think we're going to get the right kids."

And now MGC represents the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

In 2019, Rucker described the ultimate day for a South Carolina fan.

“We beat Clemson,” the singer said. “We lose one game, but we beat Clemson, we beat Alabama for the SEC Championship and then we beat Clemson again for the national championship. That would be so awesome!”

“Yeah, I might call it a day after that."
