Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Says Her State is Somehow Getting Worse Despite her Lockdown Demands

Staunch lockdown advocate Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) appeared on MSNBC with Chris Hayes to defend Michigan's rising COVID rates. Whitmer's plan was to explain it wasn't her fault, however, she ended up inadvertently admitting her extreme, illogical demands are rather pointless.

“We have some of the strongest protocols in the country and yet this virus has come raging back," Whitmer says.

"And yet," huh?

For 12 months, Whitmer has implemented some of the strictest and most ineffective COVID protocols in the country. Under Whitmer's rule, Michigan has taken the opposite approach of Florida and now Texas, a state where businesses have surged and COVID cases have dropped. Whitmer's orders are doing little to stop the spread, proving to be a costly, damning waste of time.

According to data from The Federalist, even with 24 percent of Michigan residents vaccinated and 36 percent of residents having received at least one dose, the seven-day moving average sits at 7,863 cases. That's a -- wait for it -- 39 percent increase in the last 14 days. During that same two-week span, fatality rates are up 87 percent. Michigan currently ranks third in the nation for COVID-19 positivity rates, at 16.1.

Translation: whatever Whitmer is trying to do is not working.

"Michigan is going through a major spike in cases, including having the dubious distinction of nine of the top 10 metro areas for COVID spread in the country," Buck Sexton wrote this week. "This is all happening in a state with a notoriously extreme lockdown advocate, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, calling the shots. Michigan still has mask mandates (indoor and outdoor) and has had many of these in place since July 10 of last year. It’s all Fauci-approved, and it’s failing."

States like Michigan and California have sacrificed an entire year of their businesses, education, youth social development, and sanity. What have they gotten in return?

Last week, Dr. Anthony Fauci admitted he is confused. Without saying so directly, Whitmer has admitted the same.
