What Does DeShaun Watson Want In A New Head Coach?

With all the Black Monday news, some people have forgotten the Houston Texans have an opening of their own. The team is currently looking at head coaching and GM candidates to right the ship. The team had a paltry 4-12 record in 2020.

Houston doesn't have a first- or second-round pick, and the cap space situation isn't great. That means that they must hit home runs with their coaching and GM searches.

As the team's franchise quarterback, Deshaun Watson is going to have a say in the process. So, what is he looking for in his next head coach? Well first off, he wants a guy who can come in and change the culture.

"I mean, we just need a whole culture shift," Watson said on Monday, via CBS Sports. "We just need new energy. We need discipline. We need structure. We need a leader so we can follow that leader as players. That's what we need. We've got to have the love of, not just the game of football because that's what we do, but the love for people and the people in this organization. We've all got to be on the same page.

"There's too many different minds, too many different ideas and too many people who think they have this power, and it's not like that. We need someone that stands tall, and this is who we're following, and this is the way it goes, and we're going to do it this way to win."

Watson knows what it takes to be an effective player in the league, and he's one of the few reasons the job will be appealing. He's only 25 years old, which means he should have another decade-plus worth of quality play in him.

In some ways, it doesn't even matter whom Houston hires. All that coach will have to do is two things: 1) don't trade away the good players for underwhelming draft capital and 2) don't overpay for the guys they bring in via trade.

Should be easy, right?
