Washington's Getting Help On Offense With The Return Of Curtis Samuel
A number of curveballs have been thrown at the Washington Football Team in just three weeks of regular season action. Washington has been a popular offseason pick for surprise team of 2021-22, but the winning recipe has been short of a couple ingredients.
Expecting to bank their success on a stellar defense from 2020 and a new arsenal of offensive players including Ryan Fitzpatrick, both pillars of their game plan have been struck down by Week 4. Washington's defense is surrendering 432 yards, the second-worst total in the NFL. However, a glint of hope has arisen leading up to Week 4 as free agent pickup Curtis Samuel announced that he'll be ready to play against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
According to OutKick's ProFootballDoc, "Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera told reporters Friday that wide receiver Curtis Samuel will be activated off injured reserve to play against the Falcons."
"We'll sprinkle him in," assured Ron Rivera, per the ESPN report. "There are some things he did that I really liked seeing today ... It's not like we expect him to come out and play 65 plays. That's the thing we have to be smart about."
Samuel was signed to a three-year, $34.5 million deal to serve as a complementary wideout to Washington's Terry McLaurin. A groin injury led to Samuel landing on IR to start the year, but the former Panther is ready to suit up with Taylor Heinicke now throwing the ball. Fitzpatrick remains on injured reserve with a hip subluxation injury. Samuel's addition will help Washington's offense bombard the Falcons' anemic secondary.
The Atlanta defensive unit is giving up 31.3 points through three weeks.
