Vikings Players Warm-Up in ‘Free Odell’ Shirts Ahead of Ravens Game

Ahead of the Minnesota Vikings‘ Week 9 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, several Vikings players were seen wearing ‘Free Odell’ shirts in warmups.

These players included wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who went to LSU but not at the same time as Odell Beckham Jr., and cornerback Cameron Dantzler, who grew up with OBJ in Louisiana, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports.

Beckham is preparing to play for his third NFL team after the Cleveland Browns released him on Friday morning.

ESPN reports that after days of negotiations, the Browns and OBJ reached a settlement that will result in him being placed on waivers Monday, after which he can be claimed Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

So while OBJ was released from the team Friday and he isn’t “stuck” with the Browns, he isn’t officially a free agent. ESPN reports that it is unlikely that Beckham will be claimed on waivers Tuesday, which means he then would become a free agent.

Fansided reports that Beckham must clear waivers before he’s allowed to make his own decision on where he will play, and that includes waiting until all 31 other teams pass on claiming him.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are the first team on the waiver wire, so if they place a claim on him, he would not reach free agency, the outlet reports.

Ahead of the Week 9 matchup, the Vikings announced their list of inactive players for the game and QB Kellen Mond, WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette, LB Chazz Surratt and DT Michael Pierce won’t suit up for Minnesota.

Both LB Anthony Barr and Dantzler will suit up after being listed as questionable on the final injury report, the team said.

Ravens’ WR Sammy Watkins, RB Latavius Murray, S Ar’Darius Washington, G Patrick Mekari and DT Brandon Williams won’t be suiting up for Baltimore on Sunday.

The Vikings hit the road to face the Ravens in Baltimore for Week 9’s matchup, with kickoff set for 12 p.m. CST.
