Vandy-Georgia Canceled After Commodores Can’t Meet Roster Requirements

ESPN’s Cole Cubelic reports the Vanderbilt-Georgia game has been canceled. As of Tuesday, Vandy interim head coach Todd Fitch wasn’t sure if he’d have enough players to field a team. Many of his players were contemplating opting out of the trip to Athens to face Georgia after being blown out 41-0 last Saturday at home against Missouri.

Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger reports that Vandy couldn’t meet the number of players required to play Saturday’s game. Brett McMurphy reports this Saturday’s game was canceled due to COVID.

Kicker Sarah Fuller, from the Vandy women’s soccer team, was scheduled to be with the team at Georgia, but interim head coach Fitch was also attempting to get Vandy’s 2019 kicker, Ryley Guay, on the roster for the Georgia game as well.

It wasn’t just on-field issues this week for Vandy. Radio play-by-play guy Joe Fisher resigned and announced he was entering rehab.

Vandy is scheduled to play a rescheduled game December 12 in Knoxville. The Vandy-UGA game has been rescheduled for December 19.

  1. not to kick Vandy while they are down (pun INTENDED) – but why is the game canceled?

Why doesn’t Vanderbilt have to forfeit? They aren’t claiming a faux-covid outbreak, correct? Just can’t find enough players who want to play football?

Don’t get me wrong, if I had been a Vandy player and my coach & AD had decided to let a girl soccer player who had been on my football team for ONE DAY give a “halftime speech” when we were down 21-0 and basically demean me for my supposed lack of “team spirit” – I would have simply taken off my entire uniform, handed it to that idiot Derek Mason, and walked out of there in my street clothes. Or maybe just my jock.

These woke clowns obviously only think college football is an excuse to promote a political agenda. It’s not something in their mind that takes years of intense hard work, dedication, effort, blood, sweat, and in Vandy’s case, lots of losing. That’s hard.

Showing up for ONE DAY and lecturing your supposed “teammates” in an obvious publicity stunt designed only to prevent your loser coach from being fired. That’s not hard.

  2. Then I saw the ESPN piece covering up for Derek Mason after his firing about the lack of black coaches in college football. Put it this way…I don’t care what skin suit the coach has…having a woman’s soccer player dressing down your team and putting her out on the football field should be a fireable offense. That’s poor excuse of a coach just ripped out whatever little spirit that team had left.

  3. If Cincinnati was smart, they should jump at the chance to play Georgia tomorrow. Georgia lost to both Bama and Florida (teams Cincy is competing with for the playoffs), so it would be a good litmus test for comparing resumes.
