Utah Running Back Ty Jordan Has Died (Updates)

Utah running back Ty Jordan, the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2020, has died.

KUTV reporter Jake Edmonds tweeted that the Denton, Texas police department reports Jordan accidentally shot himself.






Speaking to ESPN, Denton Police Department public information officer Allison Beckwith said, "Following a preliminary investigation, we do believe that this was an accidental shooting, where the victim accidentally shot himself,"

Utah president Ruth V. Watkins tweeted:

"On behalf of the entire University of Utah, our love and condolences to Ty Jordan’s family, friends, teammates and coaches. We are devastated by this heartbreaking news. To watch Ty on the field was to be thrilled by his athleticism and talent. Rest In Peace, Ty."










 

Jordan, out of Mesquite, Texas, rushed 83 times for 597 yards and six touchdowns over five games for the Utes. Members of the Utah Utes football team expressed their emotions over the news early Saturday as word of Jordan's death started to spread.
