Urban Meyer Officially Hired By Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially named former Buckeye Urban Meyer as their next head coach. Coulda’ sworn he said he was “likely done” coaching, but now that the Jags look to be grabbing Trevor Lawrence no. 1 overall, we can see why he changed his mind.

Welcome back, Urban.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted out the official statement from Jaguars’ owner Shad Khan to welcome their new head coach:

Meyer was 187-32 in his college coaching career and 12-3 in bowl games, which is impressive, but the NFL is a whole different ballgame. Will the former Buckeyes coach be able to lead Trevor Lawrence and a 53-man NFL roster? We’re about to find out.

  1. We need a prop bet on the date of his quitting because of his health or need to spend more time with his family blah blah blah. Because we all know it’s coming. It’s what he does.

My guess is it’s during or after his 2nd season when they aren’t a 500 team.

  2. Guessing he’ll be “taking time to be with his family” once he realizes that he can’t guarantee an .800 season by scheduling 3 horrifically bad teams every year (in addition to the doormats of the conferences he is obliged to play), can’t assemble team of the best players by committing rafts of recruiting violations, and his trademark offense doesn’t work at all in the NFL.
