Undefeated AZ Cardinals Will Be Without HC Kliff Kingsbury After Testing Positive For COVID

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury will miss Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Cardinals (5-0) announced Friday night that Kingsbury along with quarterbacks coach Cam Turner and defensive tackle Zach Allen also will miss the game against the Browns (3-2) on Sunday after testing positive.

While players are exempt from mandatory COVID vaccines, Tier 1 and Tier 2 staffers are still required to get vaccinated. Kingsbury said last month that after having one of the lowest vaccination rates in the league during training camp, the entire Cardinals roster was fully vaccinated, Yahoo Sports reports.

Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and assistant head coach/special-teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers will share the head-coaching responsibilities Sunday, NFL Network reports. The team hadn’t been notified as of Friday night who will call the plays in place of Kingsbury.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported later Friday night that Cardinals GM Steve Keim also tested positive for COVID-19 and will not make the trip to Cleveland.

The Cardinals placed pass rusher Chandler Jones on the team’s COVID-19 list earlier this week.

All players and staff are subject to daily COVID-19 testing regardless of vaccination status under the league’s enhanced COVID protocols.

Pelissero reports the league is not currently considering any changes to Sunday’s game in Cleveland, which is currently slated to kick off at 4:05 p.m. ET.
