Tennessee running back Tiyon Evans is officially done in Knoxville, as the Vols leading rusher on the year has entered the transfer portal.

The South Carolina native who transferred to Tennessee from Hutchinson Community College announced his decision on Friday morning, via Instagram.

“First of all, I wanna thank the lord above for blessing me with the ability to do what I love to do. Secondly, to the vol nation I thank each and every one of you for the undying support that you give, that itself will last with me forever.

“I wanna thank coach Heupel and his staff for giving me a chance here at UT to be a cols when ge got the position and throughout this journey. I have made some friendships that will last a lifetime. To all my brothers, love  ✊🏽. After praying to god and giving myself time to think on what’s best for me and my family, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal and eight my options.”

Tiyon was the Vols’ leading rusher by 16 yards heading into the final game of regular season. He had 525 yards, on 81 attempts, with six TDs and also had one receiving touchdown.

Evans had missed all of spring practice before the 2021 season and was very limited in fall camp, as he continued rehabbing his ankle. In his breakout game against Missouri, Evans rushed for 156 yards and three TDs. He injured his ankle again during the South Carolina game and has played in only two games since, with a few carries against Alabama and one carry against Kentucky. He was on the sidelines during the Georgia game, but was absent during the South Alabama contest.

Evans obviously did show some promise in Knoxville, but he was unfortunately hampered by injuries. Now he will work on a few things and decide what’s best for his future.
