Tiger & Charlie Woods To Team Up For Father-Son PNC Championship

Golf continues to be on an absolute heater — except for the Masters ratings, which had to go up against football — and that’s going to continue well into December when Tiger and 11-year-old Charlie Woods will team up for the father-son PNC Championship, a tournament for PGA “champions and their kin.” The scramble takes place December 17-20 at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando and should be a ratings bonanza for NBC Sports and Golf Channel.

Could we get a Tiger-Charlie & John Daly-John Daly II pairing? IMAGINE THE DRAMA! THINK OF THE FUTURE OF GOLF! The tournament will consist of a 36-hole scramble with a $1,085,000 prize purse.

“Having Tiger and his son in the field for the first time is a very special moment for the recently re-named PNC Championship,” tournament director Alastair Johnston said. “Back in 1997, Tiger and I were next door neighbors at Isleworth.  After his momentous victory at the Masters that year, when he returned home, I offered him my congratulations.  However, I did not reference his amazing performance at Augusta but advised him that as a newly-minted major champion, he had now qualified to participate in the Father/Son Challenge!”

“He was somewhat bemused at the time, but 23 years later, we will welcome him knowing very well that he will not be driven by nostalgia but will be on a mission to add to his commendable list of titles, but this time having the chance to share one with his son.”

Teams signed up for the tournament include:

  • Mark Calcavecchia & son
  • John Daly & son
  • David Duval & son
  • Jim Furyk & son
  • Padraig Harrington & son
  • Lee Janzen & son
  • Tom Kite & son
  • Matt Kuchar & son
  • Bernhard Langer & son
  • Tom Lehman & son
  • Greg Norman & son
  • Mark O’Meara & son
  • Gary Player & grandson
  • Nick Price & son
  • Vijay Singh & son
  • Annika Sorenstam & father
  • Justin Thomas & father
  • Lee Trevino & son
  • Tiger Woods & son

Tiger has spent part of 2020 carrying Charlie’s bag, as his son makes his way from tournament to tournament and collects his own wins. Now it’s go-time for the future of golf. Tiger feels he’s ready.

  1. If were the betting type…which we are…if you can find any book to help you lay a long term future on John Daly Jr. winning any major one day…we would highly recommend. That kid is going to be a damn legend in the golf world.
