The Slam Man: Wimbledon Winner Djokovic One Shy Of Four Grand Slam Titles In Same Year

Novak Djokovic continues to show why he's No. 1 in the world. And for Djokovic, all it takes is a stint at Wimbledon, where he has now won 21 straight matches.

The latest came Sunday, when he bested Matteo Berrettini in four sets, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 to claim the men's singles title. Djokovic has now tied the men's record with his 20th Grand Slam championship. He has won three straight titles at Wimbledon and six Wimbledon titles overall.

Djokjovic, 34, also keeps fending off the younger dudes. Before topping Berrettini, 25, Djokjovic beat Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open final and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the French Open final. All are considered "Next Gen" tennis men on the rise.

Djokovic's 20th Grand Slam win puts him in a tie with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, the other members of tennis' "Big Three."

"I have to pay a great tribute to Rafa and Roger," Djokovic said. "They are legends of our sport and they are the two most important players that I've ever faced in my career. They are I think the reason that I am where I am today. They have helped me realize what I need to do in order to improve get stronger mentally, physically, tactically."

Djokovic may not be done. He can win his fourth Grand Slam of the year at the U.S. Open -- and four Slams in a season hasn't happened since 1969, when Rod Laver did it.

"I could definitely envision that happening," Djokovic said. "I'm going to definitely give it a shot. I'm in a great form and obviously playing well. Playing my best tennis at Grand Slams is the highest priority that I have right now at this stage of my career. So, let's keep it going."
