Taco Bell On Bringing Back Famed Mexican Pizza: 'There's A Chance'

Taco Bell is pushing potatoes, but its famed Mexican Pizza remains shelved. And that's enough to make some fans hurl.

But fear not. The fast-food chain is reconsidering everything. That includes bringing back the once-popular flour tortilla shell filled with refried beans, seasoned ground beef and Mexican sauce -- and then topped with another tortilla, more Mexican sauce, more cheese and chopped tomatoes.

"I think there's always a chance," Taco Bell's global chief food innovation officer Liz Matthews told Business Insider. "We're constantly listening to our customers. So, I wouldn't pull that off the table."

As an aside, Taco Bell fans will be happy to know the above comments were made before April Fool's Day.

Anyway, there is an entire Twitter account devoted to bringing back the item and even a petition that is undoubtedly worth signing.

On the bright side, Taco Bell has a history of listening to customers. In March, after months of protests, it returned chalupas as well as items featuring potatoes.

"We definitely heard from our consumers — because they love our potatoes," Matthews said. "We do have a direct line with our consumers and they're loud and vocal, and we love that because they're passionate about our brand."

Blah, blah, blah. That's all great. Just bring back the pizza and quit being so, well, cheesy.
