Surprise! Despite $2 Million Guarantee, Lions Cut Breshad Perriman

Though it's unlikely to make any top ten destination lists, Detroit might be the ideal summer spot for a vacation. That is, if you can get the same deal ex-Lion Breshad Perriman did. Perriman was paid $2 million to spend his summer in the Motor City. After signing as a free agent earlier this offseason, he was released by the Lions on Monday morning, just months after the team guaranteed him millions.

Perriman, 27, signed a one-year $2.5 million deal in March, with $2 million guaranteed. Last season, the wide receiver registered 30 receptions, 505 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games for the Jets. He was expected to provide stability to a Lions receiving corps that projects to be one of the worst units in the league.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell weighed in on the release before Monday's practice: “I didn’t feel like there was enough there relative of who was left, who we were trying to keep, who could possibly be out there. It just felt like we needed to go another direction."

With Perriman's five month Michigan vacation coming to a close, Tyrell Williams, Geronimo Allison, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Quintez Cephus will likely enter the season as Detroit's top receiving options.

FanDuel Sportsbook currently lists the Perriman-less Lions as 7.5 point underdogs for their season opener against San Francisco.
