Wyndham Clark Loses PLAYERS Championship To Scottie Scheffler On Most Vicious Lip Out Ever

Golf can be a cruel, cruel game. Anyone who's ever picked up a club and walked onto a course knows that. Reigning U.S. Open Champion Wyndham Clark got a harsh reminder Sunday at the PLAYERS Championship.

Clark held a four-shot lead after 36 holes but coughed that up on Saturday. Xander Schauffele went off to take a one-stroke lead over Clark. But, as always, Scottie Scheffler was lurking inside the Top 10, five shots back.

As usual, Scheffler showed up on Sunday and absolutely blitzed TPC Sawgrass, putting himself in position to become the first player to ever win this tournament in back-to-back years.

Scheffler shot 64 on Sunday, tied for the best round of the week by any player in any round. Because of course he did.

Wyndham Clark still had a chance to catch Scottie Scheffler for the PLAYERS Championship

Still, that put Scheffler at -20 for the Championship. Brian Harman, Xander Schauffele and Wyndham Clark all stepped up to the 18th tee at -19.

Harman was in the penultimate group and missed his birdie putt to tie Scheffler. Schauffele hit his tee shot out of position and never gave himself much of a chance.

But Clark hit his tee shot into the fairway then creeped his approach onto the front of the green, 17 feet from the cup.

Clark hit a great putt and started to celebrate tying Scheffler to send the PLAYERS Championship into a playoff.

However, the ball somehow lipped out of the hole. At one point, it appeared that more than half of the ball was in the hole. But all that matters is where the ball finishes. And it wasn't in the hole.

Just brutal for Clark, who came up short for the second consecutive week. Last week, he finished second at the Arnold Palmer Invitational to … Scottie Scheffler.

This week, he finished second to … Scottie Scheffler.

You think Clark feels bad? Think about how I feel.

I'm the real victim here.
