Wisconsin Humiliated By Nebraska, Team Should Be Embarrassed

The Wisconsin Badgers blew an 18-point lead against Nebraska in stunning fashion Thursday night.

Wisconsin is in an unbelievably important week of the regular season, and fans were amped going into games against Nebraska and second-ranked Purdue.

A clean sweep of the week could have put the Badgers into the top three teams in America. It looked like that was going to be the case early against the Cornhuskers.

The Badgers built an 18-point lead early in the second half, and it appeared the first challenge of the week was going to be cruised through.

Nebraska had different plans.

Wisconsin blows massive lead to lose to Nebraska.

Instead of holding onto the massive lead, the Badgers allowed the Cornhuskers to slowly chip away at the 18-point advantage, force overtime and walk out of Pinnacle Bank Arena with an 80-72 win.

It was nothing short of embarrassing for Greg Gard and the Badgers. Blowing an 18-point lead in the second half is simply unacceptable. Who are these guys? The Detroit Lions?

To make matters worse, it's the second straight year Wisconsin has done something like this has happened on the road at Nebraska.

The Badgers blew a 17-point lead last year to lose to the Cornhuskers!

Wisconsin came out on fire Thursday night, and the sixth-ranked Badgers looked the part. Greg Gard's squad looked like a team that belongs as a potential one seed.

Then, the shot selection got too loose, Wisconsin's defense busted wide open and the Cornhuskers eliminated an 18-point lead like it was nothing. Fans should absolutely be embarrassed. I'm not even going to complain about Cornhuskers fans storming the court. Wisconsin supporters have much bigger fish to fry at the moment.

A win against Nebraska and Purdue this week would have cemented the Badgers as a one-seed in the tournament if the field was being set in the immediate future. Instead, Gard and his players blew an 18-point lead, and now almost certainly need to beat second-ranked Purdue to just stay in the top 10.

Welcome to life as a Wisconsin Badgers fan. Just as you start to believe again, you get crushed in brutal fashion. Not great at all. Wisconsin needs to do much better. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
