Washington Reportedly Makes Incredible Basketball Coach Hire

Washington reportedly pulled the trigger on hiring Danny Sprinkle.

The Utah State coach will leave the Aggies and take over the Huskies following a second round exit from the NCAA Tournament, according to Jeff Goodman and multiple other reports.

Sprinkle went an incredibly impressive 28-6 in his only season at Utah State.

Washington reportedly hires Danny Sprinkle.

There'd been whispers about Washington wanting Sprinkle, and the school reportedly went out and got it done. This is a hell of a hire for the Huskies.

I said last year that the Wisconsin Badgers should hire Sprinkle if Greg Gard was going to be fired. All the man does is win, and win at a high level.

He coached for four seasons at Montana State, and went 52-18 with back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances with the Bobcats. He was hired after last season to coach Utah State and returned to the tournament for his third straight year and put up 28 wins along the way.

Most casual basketball fans might not be overly familiar with the 47-year-old coach, but they should be. He has proven over the past three years that he can win, and do it at a very high level without much talent.

I used to work for the Montana State basketball department (email me at David.Hookstead@outkick.com, and I'll share some stories), and I know from firsthand experience Bozeman isn't exactly the easiest place to win for a lot of reasons. Yet, Sprinkle had no trouble turning the team into a small power by year three.

Now, he's tasked with leading the Huskies into a new era of Big Ten basketball. They couldn't have found a better man. He's on a huge stage now, and Huskies fans should be popping bottles of champagne. This might be the best hire of the coaching cycle.
