Umpire Angel Hernandez Is Trending Because He Is Awful

The best job in the world right now is being a professional umpire, referee or official, because if any of us blew as many calls as they did - we'd be on LinkedIn unemployed looking for a new gig.

The latest, almost sinfully wrong call has to do with who else but ‘Atrocious’ Angel Hernandez.

All baseball fans know his name - and it's not for anything positive. But alas, we are less than 3 weeks into the MLB season and Hernandez has had multiple absolutely dreadful calls so far - but last night took the cake.

ANGEL CALLED THREE BALLS IN A ROW AS STRIKES

During last night's Texas - Astros game, Angel not only made one bad call as a strike, but three in a row. The strikes were so egregiously wrong that even the Texas Rangers broadcasters were straight up SCREAMING at how terrible Hernandez as a home plate umpire is.

"WOAHHH…" Bally Sports' Dave Raymond says after a 2-0 count had a called strike with the bases loaded for the defending World Series Champion Rangers.

Astros pitcher Wyatt Langord was also relatively shocked about the call, so he did what any smart person would do - throw the same pitch in the exact same location again.

"Oh my goodness," the announcers responded when Hernandez called it another strike and put the count at 2-2.

… And you know how this is going to go.

IF THIS WAS ANY OF US, WE'D BE FIRED FROM OUR JOB

Yup, another pitch in that exact same location was taken by the hitter for another called strike despite all three pitches clearly being balls. But not with Angel Hernandez behind the plate and in charge.

"You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME… WHAT IN THE WORLD?" Raymond screamed in utter shock at Hernandez's multiple wrong calls.

Just how bad was Angel's latest screw up? According to the reliable Umpire Auditor Twitter X account, the strike out pitch called by Hernandez missed the plate by 6.78 inches. Heck of a job there, bud!

Last night's blown call was only the latest of at least four that Angel Hernandez has been wrong on this year, including these gems:

I FIGURED IT OUT…

The only logical explanation why Angel Hernandez still has an umpire job is because he must be working on behalf of those pushing for robot umpires. He continues to be so terrible, so awful, so pathetically dreadful that the overwhelming majority of fans will prefer robot umpires.

And with Commissioner Rob Manfred not disciplining Hernandez, it's now up to the rest of the umpires union to rebel and take a stand because Hernandez is ruining their reputations and honestly, the integrity of the game.
