Timberwolves Star Karl-Anthony Towns Makes Incredibly Generous Gesture To Cancer Patient

Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns was at the center of bad news on Thursday: diagnosed with a torn meniscus, which is expected to sideline him indefinitely.

However, KAT managed to inject some positivity amid his harsh times by becoming a source of good for another person.

A Minnesota Timberwolves fan shared a screenshot on Thursday of a $1,500 donation by KAT, dedicated to the fan's mother, who suffers from pancreatic and lung cancer. The ailing woman separately suffered a broken femur injury and watched her home burn down, according to her GoFundMe page.

The fan had a positive message for KAT after his generous donation.

"Karl Anthony Towns, you are an amazing human being. Even on a day that didn’t have the best news for yourself, you took the time to impact and care for me and my family. I'm speechless and cannot thank you enough. Karl-Anthony Towns, wishing you a speedy recovery."

Towns' donation helped push the GoFundMe fundraiser past its goal of $6,300.

"Hi, my name is Gigi, and our mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 pancreatic cancer in Spring of 2020," the GoFundMe page read. "She underwent a year of chemo and radiation treatment, and then in the Summer of 2021 had Whipple surgery to remove the tumor.

"The Whipple surgery got rid of the tumor, but left her malnourished. The surgery removes a portion of your stomach, pancreas, and bile duct. Almost a year later of being cancer-free, she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.

"Right now, she is undergoing chemo treatment. While she is battling cancer and malnutrition, she also underwent surgery for a broken femur. As she was recovering from her surgery, her house burned down. Despite the challenges, she is still fighting. She continued her education and graduated with an M.A. in International Psychology, and was very close to receiving her Ph.D. in International Psychology. Our mom has always been a fighter, which comes from raising four children on her own.

"She means the world to us, and is our rock. However, we are now her rock. These funds will be used for medications, medical supplies (depends, wipes, G2 for hydration), transportation, and medical bills. We want her to not have to worry about these overwhelming expenses as she is trying to survive. She is unable to get disability, and her health insurance does not cover all her medications."

Towns has long had a heart for charity. In 2020, KAT donated $100,000 to help the Mayo Clinic work toward a COVID detection tool.

The Timberwolves will miss their former No. 1 overall pick as they duel with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the top spot in the West.
