Timberwolves Analyst Fired After Stealing Information From Exec

The Minnesota Timberwolves are experiencing in-house drama.

On Wednesday, a report by ESPN's Baxter Holmes revealed that a Timberwolves analyst is in custody and booted by the team after stealing vital information from a team executive.

Coaching analyst Somak Sarkar, 33, was arrested on Monday after Timberwolves executive vice president Sachin Gupta filed a complaint against the now-fired analyst.

Sarkar reportedly snuck into Gupta's office at Target Center on a Saturday (Feb. 3) to steal a hard drive from the exec's office. Gupta noticed the hard drive's absence the following Monday (Feb. 5).

Security footage reportedly showed Sarkar entering the office twice. As Holmes relayed, Sarkar previously worked with the executive — Gupta then requested for Sarkar's transfer out of the department in August 2023 due to poor performance. The coaching analyst has been with the Minnesota Timberwolves since 2021.

Gupta's hard drive contained private information concerning team contracts and more vital data. Authorities reportedly found that Sarkar "had accessed more than 5,000 files and downloaded them onto another device."

The report notes that Gupta is still under custody, with bail set at $40,000, since his arrest on Monday. He is expected in court on Thursday.

Minnesota sits No. 3 in the Western Conference at 47-22, still within reach of the No. 1 spot approaching the final 13 games.
