Texas Coach Steve Sarkisian Get $5M Pay Bump For 2024 As Contract Extension Details Emerge

Steve Sarkisian is about to be a very rich man. The Texas Longhorns head coach is getting a massive contract extension that will make him one of the highest paid coaches in the sport.

Texas first announced the four-year extension on Jan. 13. But the agenda book for the UT Board of Regents' upcoming meeting paints us the whole picture. Sarkisian will receive a raise from $5.8 million to $10.3 million for the 2024 season. Then, his salary will increase by $100,000 every year until 2030 — the final year of the contract.

The 49-year-old will also receive a special one-time payment of $300,000 on or before April 1 of this year.

But the cash doesn't stop flowing there. Sarkisian will also have an opportunity to earn up to $1.85 million annually in performance bonuses.

He'll also get the typical Power-5 head coach perks, like 20 hours of private aircraft time for personal use and memberships in exclusive social clubs.

"Coach Sark is an incredible coach, a first-class person, and a tremendous leader of men," said Kevin Eltife, Chairman of the UT System Board of Regents, in a statement.

"We knew he was the man for the job when we hired him three years ago, and the way he stuck to the plan he laid out for us, stayed the course in putting everything in place, and got our football program back among the best in the nation has been phenomenal."

Sarkisian’s three seasons in Austin have shown steady improvement — from 5-7 in his first year to 8-5 and now to 12-2. In 2023, he led the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff and earned Texas the No. 3 ranking in the final AP Poll.

Now, Steve Sarkisian will have a chance to prove he's worthy of those big bucks when the Longhorns join the SEC in 2024.

No pressure, Sark.
